Capital Bikeshare For All

Equity on two wheels

We’re working to expand access to bikeshare. It’s part of our ongoing effort to help create safer and healthier communities, and celebrate the diversity that makes our region so incredible.

Reducing fares with Capital Bikeshare for All

Capital Bikeshare is proud to offer $5 annual memberships for qualifying residents.

Same member benefits. Only $5/year.

Members get unlimited 60-minute rides on classic bikes — and a whole lot more. Capital Bikeshare for All members get a $40 monthly ride credit each month to cover some of the costs of using Capital Bikeshare, including:

  • Per-minute ebike charges
  • Per-minute classic bike charges for rides longer than 60 minutes
  • Out-of-station parking charges for ebikes

The $40 monthly ride credit renews each month, however, unused ride credit does not roll over to the next month. The monthly ride credit doesn’t cover fees for parking violations — these fees are always the responsibility of the rider.

If you want to park your Capital Bikeshare ebike at any public bike rack within the service area, you’ll pay $2 each time. Remember, this is covered by the $40 monthly ride credit until the credit is used up, and you can always avoid the $2 charge by docking at a CaBi station.

Who’s eligible

Capital Bikeshare for All is available to residents of Washington, DC; Arlington, VA; Alexandria, VA; Prince George's County, MD; Fairfax County, VA; City of Falls Church, VA; City of Fairfax, VA; and Montgomery County, MD who qualify for a state or federal assistance program including, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF); SSI/SSDI Supplemental Security Income; Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP); Veterans rated with 60% disability or more, and Medicaid.

  • A discounted rate on ebikes. CaBi for All members pay $0.10 per minute.
  • A discount on out-of-station ebike parking. Members pay $2 each time.
  • A $40 monthly ride credit to cover ride time for per-minute ebike rates, per-minute rates for classic bike rides longer than 60 minutes, and out-of-station parking charges for ebikes.
  • Pay just $5/year.

Requirements

  • Members must be 16 or older.
  • Proof that you receive SNAP, WIC, TANF, SSI/SSDI, LIHEAP, Veterans disability (60%+), or Medicaid assistance.

How to get started

The easiest way to get going is to use the app, but we can provide bike keys to members who may not have smartphones.

And, for those who don’t have a debit, credit card, or prepaid card required for a standard Capital Bikeshare membership, the program incorporates a cash payment system at select locations. Capital Bikeshare requires all riders to keep an active credit or debit card on file in case any extra time charges are incurred — for example, if you keep a bike out for longer than the time allowed in your membership or if you lose your bike.

Apply In-Person through a Community Partner

The Community Partners Program enables local nonprofits, government agencies, and social services organizations to offer their clients membership in the Capital Bikeshare for All program. See below for Community Partner locations and hours.
