Why we’re adjusting prices

Capital Bikeshare has experienced unprecedented ridership, setting new monthly records from May to October 2024, including an all-time high of 725,346 trips in October. This incredible growth continued into 2025, with a new single-day ridership record of 35,569 trips during the Cherry Blossom Festival.

This increased ridership means more and more of you are choosing Capital Bikeshare as your preferred way to get around. However, this growth also brings significant operational and management costs. To ensure Capital Bikeshare remains an affordable transportation option for our community, we've carefully designed a new pricing structure.

Our priority was to implement the smallest possible increase needed to cover rising costs, so we can continue to grow our ebike fleet, expand our station network, and provide you with the best possible service.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to keep Capital Bikeshare operating for everyone.

How Capital Bikeshare is leveling up to serve you better

  • More ebikes: We'll continue to expand our ebike fleet, giving you more convenient riding options across the region.
  • Wider reach and more stations: We're adding new stations to make it even easier to find a bike, increasing convenience, and extending our service to more areas.
  • Enhanced customer experience: We're upgrading older stations with new, user-friendly models to ensure a consistently reliable and enjoyable experience.
  • Smarter ebike charging: We'll continue to electrify docks to keep ebikes charged and ready for you, meaning more available ebikes and less downtime.
  • Cutting-edge bikes and stations: Expect to see the latest station designs and bike models integrated throughout Capital Bikeshare, enhancing your ride with innovative features.
